The relationship between low socioeconomic status and health is a result of finite resources and opportunities and, or limited access to resources and opportunities. Low socioeconomic status is associated with a number of distressing social conditions ranging from, but not limited to the following: limited, or no health care, homelessness, poor diet, unemployment, underemployment, etc.

The preamble of the constitution of the United States of America affirms,
